Rehearsals start promptly when scheduled. In order for you to be prepared, you must be set up, warmed up, and in your seat by the scheduled rehearsal start time.
You will need to bring a folding chair and stand to rehearsals at First United Methodist Church. You will not need to bring either a chair or stand to rehearsals at North Middle School. Brass players, please bring a rag suitable for draining water from your instrument.
You will need to bring a stand and chair to each concert. Please bring either clothespins, a small sheet of plexiglas, or music clips in order to keep your music from blowing away.
Concerts start promptly when scheduled.
If bad weather threatens before an outdoor concert, we will meet at the outdoor concert location anyway. The band leadership will decide whether to relocate to an indoor location and someone will be left at the outdoor location until the scheduled concert time to redirect performers and audience to the alternate location.
Concert dress consists of tan pants and a navy golf shirt. Embossed navy golf shirts are often available from the band for a fee. If the temperature is expected to be above 85 degrees, tan shorts may be substituted for tan pants.
If you plan to miss a rehearsal or concert, please leave your music in the music box at the previous rehearsal or concert. If you forget to leave your music in the box before you miss a rehearsal or concert, you must contact a fellow band member or a committee member and make arrangements to get your music to the rehearsal or concert.
In the past we have had several talented high school musicians in Belleville Community Band. They have contributed significantly to the band, and, in return, they have improved their sightreading skills, made new connections with adult musicians, and gotten their chops in shape for marching season.
The adult members of Belleville Community Band recognize that the best way to build membership in a band is to recruit enthusiastic and talented players at early ages. We encourage high school musicians to participate in Belleville Community Band. Talented middle school musicians should check with their band director and a Belleville Community Band board member about participating.
As with adult members of the band, we expect young musicians to keep up on their music. Expect to practice your band music on your own 30-90 minutes per week, depending on your skill level.
